The Turcon® VL Seal® was developed as the next generation unidirectional rod seal. The sealing mechanism of Turcon® VL Seal® is based on the hydrodynamic properties of the seal.
The specially formed seal edge has a steep contact pressure gradient on the high-pressure side and a shallow contact pressure gradient on the low-pressure side. This ensures that the fluid film adhering to the piston rod is returned to the high-pressure chamber on the return stroke of the rod. The micro-fluid layer that is carried out of the high-pressure chamber when the piston rod is extended is therefore prevented from causing leaks.
Important to the function of the Turcon® VL Seal® is the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions back pumping effect. This prevents pressure from being trapped between tandem seals or between seals and double-acting scrapers.
The return delivery property of the Turcon® VL Seal® prevents the build-up of the inter-stage pressure that is normally associated with tandem seal configurations. Inter-stage pressure depends on system pressure speed, stroke length and groove design.
The presence of hydraulic oil around the seal ensures a very long service life, as the seal will always be adequately lubricated.Turcon® VL Seal®
